We were brought in to generate more organic traffic to the directory's category pages and the individual businesses featured within them. The goal was to enhance both SEO performance and user experience by cleaning up the structure and URLs of the business directory.
1. Directory and URL audit. We reviewed all existing categories and business listing links across the directory, including the URL structure, to identify naming and organisation issues that were limiting both search visibility and ease of use for visitors.
2. Category renaming. Several category names didn't align with how people actually search for or describe these business types. We renamed these categories to match real-world search terms, making it easier for both search engines and users to find the right category.
3. Business re-tagging. We found a number of businesses tagged under categories that weren't the most relevant fit for their actual services. We reviewed and re-tagged these businesses so they appeared under the correct, most relevant categories, improving accuracy for users browsing the directory and ensuring each business had a better chance of surfacing for relevant searches.
4. Category page content optimisation. We rewrote the blurbs on the main category and directory pages to give visitors clearer, more useful context the moment they land on a page — explaining what the category covers and what types of businesses fall under it (for example, clarifying what "professional services" includes, rather than leaving it as a vague, undefined umbrella term).
